First Barony / Re: Week 17: April 22 - April 28

What were last week's goals?

Possibly do an application in person
Finish my room
Try Keto again

How did they go?

Work front is looking promising. I found out my top choice application is still good, and I can probably start at the end of May if I get my health cleared up.

Room is still pretty bad, made small amount of progress

I think I'm going to admit temproary defeat on Keto. Once i stop working in a kitchen and live on my own with more control over food  I think I'll return to it.

What are your goals for this week?

Room

Fill out paperwork for a new doctor

Get my sleep turned around

How productive was last week? (Scale: 1-7. 1 = minimal/not-at-all; 7 = maximum/Master Productivity)

2
Could anything be done be more productive/efficient?

Sleep better, plan better

How would you rate your wellbeing? (Scale 1-7. 1 = lowest point, 7=highest point)

3
What would have made it better?

Primarily my sleep issues, which are partially my fault. I did a good job with exercise for the most part. I need to eat better as well.

Any additional comments?

The guild is growing large enough to start delegating tasks. Anyone who would be interested in becoming a baron please post here. We may start incorporating a weekly discord chat to try to increase engagement, so you would meet with me and your group once a week should that work. You will also be responsible for posting and following up on the weekly update check ins.

What were last week's goals?

Call doc about BP
Workout 3 times
Get keto

How did they go?

I called the doc and have an appointment, so that was a success. I worked out twice, though it would have been more had I not been experiencing pain when I tried. Safety first! I would consider this a partial success. I completely failed to go keto. I pushed it back a few days since I needed to buy some more food, and didn't have the opportunity by Wednesday. Today was the day that I was supposed to get to it, and I didn't.

What are your goals for the next week?

Keto again
Clean my room
Follow-up on job leads (2 applications are out, call them and look for at least 2 more opportunities)

How productive was your last week (1-7, 7 being the highest)

I'd say a 4
What would have made it better?

I got the most important things done, but smaller things backslid, and I felt I didn't always use my time well. I think that part of my problem is my variable work schedule. I do better with routines, so I'm hoping that I can find a future job that allows me to have that. At least on my next schedule, there will be the opportunity for more consistency.

How you you rate your well-being?(1-7)
5

What would make it better?

Reduce stress, get more regular sleep, workout and eat better

@regXO1982

I'm glad you're in a good spot! How does being a paralegal connect with hypnotherapy in your plans? Buying a house is a goal of mine as well. Sounds like spending too much could get in the way of that! This post might inspire you to save more: http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2012/01/13/the-shockingly-simple-math-behind-early-retirement/ . That blog has a lot of tips on how to decrease your spending, bordering on the extreme, but the main takeaways for me were 1 reducing spending has a double impact, because not only do you save what you don't spend, but also you lower you cost of living, so you need to have less saved in the first place! and 2, it can be surprisingly easy to retire before most people do. I'm a little confused about the not going to work situation. Were you scheduled to work? Missing days when you don't feel like working is a good way to lose your job, since there will be other days where you have a more legitimate reasons not to attend, and as absences pile up, it can reflect poorly on you.
Why do you think you're unfocused? Is this a micro or macro issue? Also, I'm not sure what you're currently doing vis a vis paralegal studies, but Anki is great free software for learning and remembering things. It's smart flash cards, when you see a card and flip it, it asks you how difficult that card was for you. If it was hard, you'll repeat it that session until it's not. If it's easy, it will put it off longer and longer until you forget, then it puts it back in the deck.

@JuniperGrove

Sounds like you want to be more organized mentally and in your activities. What do you do for organization? I live and breathe by my Google Calendar (Apple people have iCal or whatever, not familiar with that if that's you). For getting work done when self-directed, I recommend the Pomodoro technique. If you have an Android I can recommend a good app. The idea is to take frequent short breaks, and less frequent longer ones. You often get more done this way, as it keeps you fresher and prevents you from getting burned out. The common version is to work for 25, break for 5, then take a half hour break after about 5 sessions of that. I don't think humans are much like robots, modern approaches to getting things done can be counter-productive in my experience.
As far as mental order goes, I find that my physical health can be closely tied to that. Sounds like you had a rough spot with that as well, sorry to hear. My BP is too high myself. Meditation is a good thing to do, and IIRC you're trying to stick to a paleo diet, which is also good. Refined carbs can really mess with a person's mind and body! Do you do anything for physical exercise? I recommend something anaerobic. Cardio can be good in moderation, but it's not the foundation of a good regimen IMO. I have a home gym where I do StrongLifts 5x5, and when I stick to that I feel great. An alternative would be kettlebells, which I'm looking into in case I find myself in a situation where I'm traveling a lot and can't use my gym. They can be cheap and found quit light for beginners. Then there are the totally free bodyweight exercises, I can point you to some resources for those as well.

Introductions / Hello!
« on: March 31, 2018, 12:30:15 AM »
Hi! My name is William (some call me Will). I'm 25 years old and my gf and I are expecting a baby girl in August. I am looking for a better job at the moment (this development caused me to drop out of college), have a few things on the horizon. I like to think I'm a pretty bright guy. I enjoy reading, politics, and philosophy, though I'd like to keep controversial topics mostly off of this forum, as people of different backgrounds should be welcome to benefit. I may be immediately breaking this rule by using an idea from a figure who is controversial to some (though IMO because extreme people take him viciously out of context), Jordan Peterson, who makes the point you shouldn't try to remake the world in your image until you can keep your room clean. Well, I'm sure most of us could stand to be tidier, literally or otherwise, else we wouldn't be here.

I decided to make this forum after toying with the idea of using fractals as an organizational structure for human endeavors. I had become fairly enamored with fractals as some secret to the universe, after watching a PBS documentary on them. I thought something like fractals could explain the organization of complexity out of simplicity (and this rather brilliant man came to a similar conclusion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eC14GonZnU& ). I thought that fractally nested groups could allow for a number of beneficial effects. Having small groups would allow for more cohesion, while the treelike-structure would allow information to flow up and down and sideways.  After a while, I realized rather sheepishly that I had simply come to the conclusion that has been around for millennia: that of monarchy or feudalism. Almost every effective organization has a pyramid structure, from governments and militaries, to churches, charities, and corporations. So I wanted to try to use the concept to make people's lives better, using the things I've learned from my own experiences in life. I've worn many hats, from thespian to activist, leader to mentally ill, student and employee, SO and soon to be father. I hope that I can help others with what wisdom I may have gleaned from my time, and to obtain more from working with everyone here.

In my life, I find I perform better when I have a boss, but when I have to direct myself I struggle. If you have this problem, this might be the site for you! We seek to combine life coaching with the historical structure of feudalism.

Some basic guild mechanics. Leaders will hold weekly group chats and monthly one on ones. Group size is five, your life coach will be in their own group of 5, and so on. The rankings are as follows (based somewhat on the English peerage system):

Peasant (lurker who hasn't introduced themselves)

Knight (basic fighter against the travails of life)

Baron (runs a group of 5 knights)

Earl (Runs 5 barons)

Count

Duke

King

You will be promoted based on how much effort you put in and how helpful you are to your fellows, as well as showing a potential for leadership.

Things were thrown off by my taking a trip to visit my pregnant gf. It really helped restore me emotionally as it's been a while since we've seen each other, but it threw off my routines while I was preparing and staying in a hotel.
